EVAL-ADF7021-NDBIZ
Analog Devices Inc.
The ADF7021-N is a high performance, low power, narrow-band transceiver based on the ADF7021. The ADF7021-N has IF filter bandwidths of 9 kHz, 13.5 kHz, and 18.5 kHz, making it ideally suited to worldwide narrowband standards and particularly those that stipulate 12.5 kHz channel separation. It is designed to operate in the narrow-band, license-free ISM bands and in the licensed bands with frequency ranges of 80 MHz to 650 MHz and 842 MHz to 916 MHz. The part has both Gaussian and raised cosine transmit data filtering options to improve spectral efficiency for narrow-band applications. It is suitable for circuit applications targeted at the Japanese ARIB STD-T67, the European ETSI EN 300 220, the Korean short range device regulations, the Chinese short range device regulations, and the North American FCC Part 15, Part 90, and Part 95 regulatory standards. A complete transceiver can be built using a small number of external discrete components, making the ADF7021-N very suitable for price-sensitive and area-sensitive applications. The range of on-chip FSK modulation and data filtering options allows users greater flexibility in their choice of modulation schemes while meeting the tight spectral efficiency requirements. The ADF7021-N also supports protocols that dynamically switch among 2FSK, 3FSK, and 4FSK to maximize communica-tion range and data throughput. The transmit section contains two voltage controlled oscillators (VCOs) and a low noise fractional-N PLL with an output resolution of The frequency-agile PLL allows the ADF7021-N to be used in frequency-hopping, spread spectrum (FHSS) systems. Both VCOs operate at twice the fundamental frequency to reduce spurious emissions and frequency pulling problems. The transmitter output power is programmable in 63 steps from ?16 dBm to +13 dBm and has an automatic power ramp control to prevent spectral splatter and help meet regulatory standards. The transceiver RF frequency, channel spacing, and modulation are programmable using a simple 3-wire interface. The device operates with a power supply range of 2.3 V to 3.6 V and can be powered down when not in use. A low IF architecture is used in the receiver (100 kHz), which minimizes power consumption and the external component count yet avoids dc offset and flicker noise at low frequencies. The IF filter has programmable bandwidths of 9 kHz, 13.5 kHz, and 18.5 kHz. The ADF7021-N supports a wide variety of pro-grammable features including Rx linearity, sensitivity, and IF bandwidth, allowing the user to trade off receiver sensitivity and selectivity against current consumption, depending on the application. The receiver also features a patent-pending automatic frequency control (AFC) loop with programmable pull-in range that allows the PLL to track out the frequency error in the incoming signal. The receiver achieves an image rejection performance of 56 dB using a patent-pending IR calibration scheme that does not require the use of an external RF source. An on-chip ADC provides readback of the integrated tempera-ture sensor, external analog input, battery voltage, and RSSI signal, which provides savings on an ADC in some applications. The temperature sensor is accurate to ?10?C over the full oper-ating temperature range of ?40?C to +85?C. This accuracy can be improved by performing a 1-point calibration at room temperature and storing the result in memory.

ADL5317-EVALZ
Analog Devices Inc.
The ADL5317 is a high-voltage, wide dynamic range biasing and current monitoring device optimized for use with avalanche photodiodes. With the provision of a stable high-voltage supply up to 80 V, the bias voltage at the VAPD pin can be varied from 6 V to 75 V using the 3 V compatible VSET pin. The current sourced from the VAPD pin, over a range of 5 nA to 5 mA, is accurately mirrored with an attenuation of 5 and sourced from the IPDM monitor output. In a typical application, the monitor output drives a current-input logarithmic amplifier to produce an output representing the optical power incident upon the photodiode. The photodiode anode may be connected to a high-speed transimpedance amplifier for the extraction of the data stream.A signal of 0.2 V to 2.5 V with respect to ground applied at the VSET pin is amplified by a fixed gain of 30 to produce the 6 V to 75 V bias at Pin VAPD. The accuracy of the bias control interface of the ADL5317 allows for straightforward calibration, thereby maintaining a constant avalanche multiplication factor of the photodiode over temperature. The current monitor output, IPDM, maintains its high linearity vs. photodiode current over the full?range of APD bias voltage. The current ratio of 5:1 remains constant as VSET and VPHV are varied. The ADL5317 also offers a supply tracking mode compatible with adjustable high voltage supplies. The VAPD pin accurately follows 2.0 V below the VPHV supply pin when VSET is tied to a voltage from 3.0 V to 5.5 V (or higher with a current limiting resistor), and the VCLH pin is open.Protection from excessive input current at VAPD as well as excessive die temperature is provided. The voltage at VAPD falls rapidly from its setpoint when the input current exceeds 18 mA nominally. A die temperature in excess of 140?C will cause the bias controller and monitor to shut down until the temperature falls below 120?C. Either overstress condition will trigger a logic low at the FALT pin, an open collector output loaded by an external pull-up to an appropriate logic supply (1 mA max). The ADL5317 is available in a 16-lead LFCSP package and is specified for operation from ?40?C to +85?C.APPLICATIONS Optical power monitoring and biasing in APD systems Wide dynamic range voltage sourcing and current monitoring in high voltage systems

LTC4088 Demo Board
Analog Devices Inc.
Demonstration Circuit 1007 is a high efficiency USB power
manager with PowerPath™ control and Li-Ion/Polymer
battery charger featuring the LTC4088. It includes a synchronous
switching input regulator, a full featured battery
charger and an ideal diode. Designed specifically for USB
applications, the LTC4088’s switching regulator automatically
limits its input current to either 100mA, 500mA or
1A for wall-powered applications via logic control. There
are also 2.5mA and 500μA suspend modes to prevent the
battery from running down when the product is connected
to a suspended USB bus.
The switching input stage provides power to VOUT where
power sharing between the application circuit and the
battery charger is managed. Unlike linear PowerPath
controllers, the LTC4088’s switching input stage can use
nearly all of the 0.5W or 2.5W available from the USB port
with minimal power dissipation. This feature allows the
LTC4088 to provide more power to the application and
battery and eases thermal issues in space constrained
applications.
An ideal diode ensures that the system power is available
from the battery when the input current limit is reached or
if the USB or wall supply is removed. The optional external
P-channel MOSFET supplements the internal ideal diode
by reducing RON and increasing efficiency.
A CHRG LED indicates four possible states of the battery
charger. Charging is indicated when the LED is steady-ON.
Not charging is indicated by a steady-OFF. A NTC fault is
indicated by a slow blinking rate (1.5Hz) and a bad battery
is indicated by a fast blinking rate (6.1Hz).
The LTC4088 is available in the low profile 14-Lead
4mm × 3mm × 0.75mm DFN surface mount package.

Analog Devices Inc.
Demonstration circuit 1055 is a 250mA Universal Nine Channel Multimode (1x, 1.5x, 2x) Charge Pump LED Driver with two RGB displays and three white LEDs featuring the LTC3219. The LTC3219 is a low noise charge pump designed to drive nine universal LED current sources. The input voltage range is 2.9V to 5.5V. Each channel provides 28mA of LED current.
The LTC3219 requires only five small ceramic capacitors to form a complete LED power supply and current controller. The maximum display currents are set with an internal precision current reference. On/Off blinking, gradation, and intensity are achieved via an I2C serial interface. There are 64 dimming states available for the universal LEDs. The DC590 controller board is required for proper operation.
