Demonstration circuit 1286A is DC/DC boost converter featuring the LTC3862EGN/-1 constant frequency current mode boost controllers. The DC1286A-A (LTC3862) operates over 5V to 36V input and provides 2A-5A of output current at 48V output. The DC1286A-B (LTC3862-1, higher VIN min and higher gate drive) operates over 8V to 36V input and provides 3A-5A of output current at 48V output. The 200kHz constant frequency operation results in small and efficient circuit. The converter provides high output voltage accuracy (typically ±3%) over wide load range with no minimum load requirement. The demonstration circuit can be easily modified to generate different output voltages.

The SSM2167 is a complete and flexible solution for conditioning microphone inputs in personal electronics and computer audio systems. It is also excellent for improving vocal clarity in com-munications and public address systems. A low noise voltage controlled amplifier (VCA) provides a gain that is dynamically adjusted by a control loop to maintain a set compression characteristic. The compression ratio is set by a single resistor and can be varied from 1:1 to over 10:1 relative to the fixed rotation point. Signals above the rotation point are limited to prevent overload and to eliminate popping. A downward expander (noise gate) prevents amplification of background noise or hum. This results in optimized signal levels prior to digitization, thereby eliminating the need for additional gain or attenuation in the digital domain. Demonstration circuit 3077A is a compact no-opto isolated flyback converter featuring the LT3002. The DC3077A outputs 12V and maintains tight regulation with a load current from 5mA up to 1.1A over an input voltage from 10V to 30V. The output current capability increases with the input voltage, as shown in the Performance Summary table.
Transformer leakage inductance causes a voltage spike on the primary side after the power switch turns off. The leakage inductance spike is limited within the MOSFET’s voltage rating of 65V with an RC snubber and a TVS clamp which damp the ringing and clamp the MOSFET drain voltage to a safe level.
The Performance Summary table summarizes the performance of the demo board at room temperature. The DC3077A demo circuit can be easily modified for different applications with some pre-designed transformers.

Demonstration circuit 2365A highlights the LTC2358 family of buffered input ADCs. The LTC2358/LTC2357/LTC2353/LTC2333 are low noise, high speed, 16-/18- bit successive approximation register (SAR) ADCs with integrated front end buffers. These ADCs accept a wide common mode range. Pico-amp inputs and high CMRR enable these ADCs to connect directly to a wide range of sensors without compromising measurement accuracy. The demo manual refers to the LTC2358-18 but applies to all parts in the family, the only differences being the number of bits, number of channels and the maximum sample rate. The LTC2358-18 has a flexible SoftSpan™ interface that allows conversion-by-conversion control of the input voltage span on a per-channel basis. An internal 2.048V reference and 2X buffer simplify basic operation while an external reference can be used to increase the input range and the SNR of the ADC.

The ADM1075 is a full feature, negative voltage, hot swap controllerwith constant power foldback and high accuracy digital currentand voltage measurement that allows boards to be safely insertedand removed from a live -48 V backplane. The part providesprecise and robust current limiting and protection against bothtransient and nontransient short circuits and overvoltage andundervoltage conditions. The ADM1075 typically operates froma negative voltage of -35 V to -80 V and, due to shunt regulation,has excellent voltage transient immunity. The operating range ofthe part is flexible due to the shunt regulator, and the part can bepowered directly by a 10 V rail to save shunt power dissipation(see the Powering the ADM1075 section for more details).A full-scale current limit of 25 mV or 50 mV can be selected bychoosing the appropriate model. The maximum current limit isset by the combination of the sense resistor, RSENSE, and the inputvoltage on the ISET pin, using external resistors. This allows finetuning of the trip voltage so that standard sense resistors can beused. Inrush current is limited to this programmable value bycontrolling the gate drive of an external N-channel FET. A builtinsoft start function allows control of the inrush current profile byan external capacitor on the soft start (SS) pin.Refer to the datasheet for more information.PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS Constant Power Foldback. The AD8304 is a monolithic logarithmic detector optimized for the measurement of low frequency signal power in fiber optic systems. It uses an advanced translinear technique to provide an exceptionally large dynamic range in a versatile and easily used form. Its wide measurement range and accuracy are achieved using proprietary design techniques and precise laser trimming. In most applications only a single positive supply, VP, of 5 V will be required, but 3.0 V to 5.5 V can be used, and certain applications benefit from the added use of a negative supply, VN.
