The LTC1700 is a current mode synchronous step-up DC/DC controller that drives external N-channel and P-channel power MOSFETs using a constant frequency PWM architecture. Current limiting is provided by sensing the voltage drop across the main MOSFET, eliminating the need of a sense resistor. This No RSENSE? technique helps the LTC1700 maintain high efficiency at heavy loads while Burst Mode operation ensures high efficiency at light loads, thus providing high efficiencies over a wide range of load currents.The LTC1700 operates at a minimum input voltage as low as 0.9V. The device boasts a ?1.5% output voltage accuracy and consumes only 200?A of quiescent current. In shutdown, it only draws 10?A.To prevent inductor current runaway, the duty cycle is limited to 90%. Overvoltage protection is also provided which shuts both the external MOSFETs off when tripped.High constant operating frequency of 530kHz allows the use of small inductors and output capacitors. The LTC1700 can also be synchronized between 400kHz to 750kHz. Demonstration circuit 879 is a Micropower Synchronous Step-Up Converter with Output Disconnect featuring the LTC3525-3.3 and LTC3525-5. The LTC3525 is a high performance Burst Mode operation only, synchronous boost converter. The LTC3525 incorporates a feature that maximizes efficiency by adjusting the peak and valley of the inductor current as a function of load. The demo board has two assembly versions: DC879A-A and DC879A-B. The DC879A-A offers fixed 3.3V output. The DC879A-B offers fixed 5V output. They offer a compact, high efficiency solution in single cell or dual cell alkaline or Li-ion applications. Only three small external components are required.

Demonstration circuit 2365A highlights the LTC2358 family of buffered input ADCs. The LTC2358/LTC2357/LTC2353/LTC2333 are low noise, high speed, 16-/18-bit successive approximation register (SAR) ADCs with integrated front end buffers. These ADCs accept a wide common mode range. Pico-amp inputs and high CMRR enable these ADCs to connect directly to a wide range of sensors without compromising measurement accuracy. The demo manual refers to the LTC2358-18 but applies to all parts in the family, the only differences being the number of bits, number of channels and the maximum sample rate. The LTC2358-18 has a flexible SoftSpan™ interface that allows conversion-by-conversion control of the input voltage span on a per-channel basis. An internal 2.048V reference and 2X buffer simplify basic operation while an external reference can be used to increase the input range and the SNR of the ADC.

The LTC1503-1.8/LTC1503-2 are switched capacitor step-down DC/DC converters that produce a regulated output from a 2.4V to 6V input. The parts use switched capacitor fractional conversion to achieve high efficiency over the entire input range. No inductors are required. Internal circuitry controls the step-down conversion ratio to optimize efficiency as the input voltage and load conditions vary. Typical efficiency is 25% higher than that of a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator.Regulation is achieved by sensing the output voltage and enabling the internal switching network as needed to maintain a fixed output voltage. This method of regulation enables the parts to achieve high efficiency at extremely light loads. Low operating current (25?A with no load, 5?A in shutdown) and low external parts count (two 1?F flying capacitors and two 10?F bypass capacitors) make the LTC1503-1.8/LTC1503-2 ideally suited for space constrained battery-powered applications. The LT1533 is a new class of switching regulator designed to reduce conducted and radiated electromagnetic interference (EMI). Ultralow noise and EMI are achieved by providing user control of the output switch slew rates. Voltage and current slew rates can be independently programmed to optimize switcher harmonic content versus efficiency. The LT1533 can reduce high frequency harmonic power by as much as 40dB with only minor losses in efficiency. The LT1533 utilizes a dual output switch current mode architecture optimized for low noise topologies. The IC includes two 1A power switches along with all necessary oscillator, control and protection circuitry. Unique error amp circuitry can regulate both positive and negative voltages. The internal oscillator may be synchronized to an external clock for more accurate placement of switching harmonics. Protection features include cycle by cycle current limit protection, undervoltage lockout and thermal shutdown. Low minimum supply voltage and low supply current during shutdown make the LT1533 well suited for portable applications. The part may also be forced into a 50% duty cycle mode for unregulated applications.
