LTC7821 Demo Board | 12V, 20A Hybrid Step-Down Synchronous Converter

Analog Devices Inc.
Demonstration circuit 2513B is a high efficiency, high power density hybrid converter. It can deliver 12V/20A with an input voltage from 36V to 72V. This demo board features the LTC7821, which uses an architecture that merges soft-switching switched-capacitor topology with a traditional step-down converter to provide superior efficiency compared to the traditional switching architectures. It offers a high efficiency/high density and cost effective solution for nonisolated intermediate bus applications in power distribution, datacom and telecom as well as emerging 48V automotive systems. External MOSFETs switch at a 500kHz fixed frequency for this demo board and can be programmed from 200kHz to 1.5MHz. The LTC7821’s powerful 1Ω N-channel MOSFET gate drivers maximize efficiency and can drive multiple MOSFETs in parallel for higher power applications. Due to its current mode control architecture, multiple LTC7821s can be operated in a parallel, multiphase configuration with excellent current sharing and low output voltage ripple to enable much higher power applications. Other benefits include low EMI emissions due to a soft-switched front end and reduced MOSFET stress. The LTC7821 design eliminates the inrush current typically associated with switched capacitor circuits by prebalancing the capacitors on start-up. The LTC7821 also monitors system voltage, current and temperature for faults, and uses a sense resistor for overcurrent protection. It stops switching and pulls the FAULT pin low when a fault condition occurs. An onboard timer can be set for appropriate restart/retry times. Additional features include ±1% output voltage accuracy over temperature, a clock output for multiphase operation, a power good output signal, short-circuit protection, monotonic output voltage start-up, optional external reference, undervoltage lockout and internal charge balance circuitry. The LTC7821 data sheet must be used in conjunction with this demo board manual.

ADP2139CB-0.8EVALZ

Analog Devices Inc.
The ADP2138 and ADP2139 are high efficiency, low quiescent current, synchronous step-down dc-to-dc converters. The ADP2139 has the additional feature of an internal discharge switch. The total solution requires only three tiny external components. When the MODE pin is set high, the buck regulator operates in forced PWM mode, which provides low peak-to-peak ripple for power supply noise sensitive loads at the expense of light load efficiency. When the MODE pin is set low, the buck regulator automatically switches operating modes, depending on the load current level. At higher output loads, the buck regulator operates in PWM mode. When the load current falls below a predefined threshold, the regulator operates in power save mode (PSM), improving light load efficiency. The ADP2138/ADP2139 operate on input voltages of 2.3 V to 5.5 V, which allows for single lithium or lithium polymer cell, multiple alkaline or NiMH cell, PCMCIA, USB, and other standard power sources. The maximum load current of 800 mA is achievable across the input voltage range. The ADP2138/ADP2139 are available in fixed output voltages of 3.3 V, 3.0 V, 2.8 V, 2.5 V, 1.8 V, 1.5 V, 1.2 V, 1.0 V, and 0.8 V. All versions include an internal power switch and synchronous rectifier for minimal external part count and high efficiency. The ADP2138/ADP2139 have internal soft start and they are internally compensated. During logic controlled shutdown, the input is disconnected from the output and the ADP2138/ADP2139 draw 0.2 ?A (typical) from the input source.Other key features include undervoltage lockout to prevent deep battery discharge, and soft start to prevent input current overshoot at startup. The ADP2138/ADP2139 are available in a 6-ball wafer level chip scale package (WLCSP).Applications PDAs and palmtop computers Wireless handsets Digital audio, portable media players Digital cameras, GPS navigation units

DC384A-A

Analog Devices Inc.
The LTC1730 is a complete pulse charger for 1-cell lithium-ion batteries. When charging a depleted cell, the internal MOSFET is fully on allowing the current limited input power source to provide charge current to the battery, virtually eliminating heat generation in the charger. As the battery accepts charge and approaches the programmed voltage, the internal MOSFET begins switching off and on with the duty cycle gradually decreasing as the battery approaches a fully charged condition. A programmable timer ends the charge cycle. The end-of-charge condition is indicated at the CHRG pin when the average charge current falls to C/10. Removing the input voltage puts the LTC1730 into a sleep mode, dropping the battery current drain to less than 1?A (maximum). An external sense resistor limits the maximum charge current as a safety precaution against a user connecting a wall adapter with the incorrect or no current limit. The internal MOSFET prevents reverse battery current from flowing if the input voltage is shorted to ground, eliminating the need for a blocking diode. The LTC1730-4 is available in the 16-pin SSOP package and the LTC1730-4.2 is available in the 8-pin SO package.Applications Standalone Lithium-Ion Battery Charger Handheld Computers Cellular Telephones

LTC3614EUDD Demo Board | 4A, 4MHz Monolithic Synchronous Step-Down DC/DC Converter

Analog Devices Inc.
Demo Circuit 1467 is a high efficiency, high frequency step-down converter, incorporating the LTC3614 monolithic synchronous regulator. The DC1467A has an input voltage range of 2.25V to 5.5V, and is capable of delivering up to 4A of output current. The output voltage of the DC1467A can be set as low as 0.6V, the reference voltage of the LTC3614. The operating frequency range of the DC1467A is either set to a fixed 2.25 MHz by connecting the frequency pin to SVin, set by an external resistor, or synchronized to an external clock, with a range up to 4 MHz. At low load currents, the DC1467A can operate in either noise sensitive applications, due to the capability of the LTC3614 to operate in pulse-skipping mode, or in high efficiency applications, because the LTC3614 also has Burst-Mode capability. The Burst Mode clamp can be set externally.
