DC1162A-B: Demo Board for LTC4223 Dual Supply Hot Swap Controller for Advanced Mezzanine Card

Demonstration circuit 2176A features the LT3909, a 2-string × 50mA, 2MHz step-up LED driver with ±1.8% current matching. The LT3909 precisely regulates two LED strings for equal current, supports LED dimming that reduces brightness down to a 1/40,000 ratio, protects against faults and also reports faults. The LT3909 consists of a step-up converter with a fixed 2MHz switching frequency and current sources for the LED strings. The maximum current in each LED string is 40mA. The ISET resistor can be changed to 20.0kΩ to program the string current to 50mA – see the data sheet for an application example with 50mA string current. Voltage feedback resistors optimize operation for LEDs that are 35V maximum.

Demonstration circuit 2616A-D features a polyphase design using the LTM4647EY, a 30A high efficiency, switch mode step-down power µModule regulator. The input voltage range is from 6V to 15V. To use DC2616A-D for input voltage range from 4.7V to 6V, connect INTVCC to SVIN (change R22, R42, R55, R68 from OPT to 0Ω), DRVCC to VIN (change R21, R38, R52, R65 from 0Ω to OPT, R2, R39, R53, R66 from OPT to 0Ω). The output voltage range is 0.6V to 1.8V. The DC2616A-D can deliver a nominal 120A output current with four LTM4647 modules in parallel. As explained in the data sheet, output current derating is necessary for certain VIN, VOUT, and thermal conditions. The board operates in continuous conduction mode in heavy load conditions. For high efficiency at low load currents, the MODE_PLLIN jumper selects pulseskipping mode for noise sensitive applications or burst mode operation in less noise sensitive applications. The MODE_PLLIN pin also allows the LTM4647 to synchronize to an external clock signal. The phase shift between two adjacent phases is 90 degrees. DC2616A-D has the option of choosing both internal and external compensation circuit for LTM4647. The LTM4647 data sheet must be read in conjunction with this demo manual prior to working on or modifying demo circuit DC2616A-D.

It features remote configurability and telemetry-monitoring of power management parameters over PMBus?an open standard I2C-based digital interface protocol. The LTC2380/LTC2379/LTC2378/LTC2377/LTC2376 are low power, low noise ADCs with serial outputs that can operate from a single 2.5V supply. The demo manual refers to the LTC2379-18 but applies to all parts in the family, the only difference being the maximum sample rates and the number of bits. The LTC2379-18 supports a ±5V fully differential input range with a 101dB SNR, consumes only 18mW and achieves ±2LSB INL max with no missing codes at 18-bits. The DC1783A demonstrates the DC and AC performance of the LTC2379-18 in conjunction with the DC590 QuikEval™ and DC718 PScope™ data collection boards.

The AD7606C-18 is an 18-bit, simultaneous sampling, analog-to-digital data acquisition system (DAS) with eight channels. Each channel contains analog input clamp protection, a programmable gain amplifier (PGA), a low-pass filter (LPF), and an 18-bit successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC). The Analog Devices, Inc., amplifier mezzanine card (AMC) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) driver evaluates the performance of amplifiers in 8-lead, single and dual SOIC, 6-lead single SOT23, 8-lead dual MSOP, and 16-lead LFCSP packages. This add on board can be inserted on ADC evaluation boards using its 7-pin header. Figure 1 shows the AMC mounted on an Analog Devices, Inc., ADC evaluation board. The AMC can support any of Analog Devices operational amplifiers and ADC drivers in different packages. The user can configure the ADC driver as a Sallen-Key low-pass, high-pass, or band-pass filter, as a multiple feedback low-pass, high-pass, or band-pass filter, or as an inverting and noninverting operational amplifier. The user can also configure the AMC to drive a single-ended, fully differential, or a single-ended signal to a differential ADC. Optimized power and ground planes ensure low noise and high speed operation. Component placement and power supply bypassing are optimized for maximum circuit flexibility and performance. The AMC evaluation board accepts 0402 or 0603 surface mount technology (SMT) components, 1206 bypass capacitors, and 2.54 mm headers. All components are placed on the primary side. No components are placed on the secondary side.

The LT8310 is a simple-to-use resonant reset forward converter controller that drives the gate of a low side N-channel MOSFET from an internally regulated 10V supply. The LT8310 features duty mode control that generates a stable, regulated, isolated output using a single power transformer. With the addition of output voltage feedback, via opto-coupler (isolated) or directly wired (nonisolated), current mode regulation is activated, improving output accuracy and load response. The flexibility to choose transformer turns ratio makes high step-down or step-up ratios possible without operating at duty cycle extremes.The user can program the switching frequency from 100kHz to 500kHz to optimize efficiency, performance or external component size.
