LTM4681 Demo Board | PolyPhase Single Output Step-Down µModule Regulator with Digital PSM: 4 × LTM4681 at 480A

Demonstration circuit DC3082A-C features the LTM4681: the wide input and output voltage range, high efficiency and power density, high current PolyPhase® single output DC/DC step-down μModule® regulator with digital power system management. DC3082A-C is configured as 16-phase single output using 4× LTM4681. The factory default input voltage is 12V typical, output voltage is 1V at 480A typical or 500A peak with recommended 400LFM forced airflow. The demo board output voltages can be adjusted from 0.6V to 1V. Programming the output voltages to any value that is greater than 1V, requires derating output current based on thermal derating curves provided in the data sheet of the LTM4681. Heat sink or other appropriate electronic cooling systems can also be used in conjunction with forced airflow to further optimize the output power when the output is on and loaded with maximum output current. The factory default switching frequency is preset at 350kHz typical. DC3082A-C comes with PMBus interface and digital power system management functions. An onboard 12-pin connector is available for users to connect the dongle DC1613A to the demo board, provides an easy way to communicate and program the part using LTpowerPlay® software development tool. LTpowerPlay software and I2C/PMBus/SMBus dongle DC1613A allows users to monitor real time telemetry of input and output voltages, input and output current, switching frequency, internal IC die temperatures, power stage component temperatures and fault logs. Programmable parameters include device address, output voltages, control loop compensation, switching frequency, phase interleaving, DCM or CCM mode of operation, digital soft-start, sequencing and time based shutdown, fault responses to input and output overvoltage, output overcurrent, IC die and power component overtemperature. The LTM4681 is available in a thermally enhanced, low profile 330-Lead (15mm × 22mm × 8.17mm) BGA package. It is recommended to read the data sheet and the demo manual of LTM4681 prior to use or making any hardware changes to DC3082A-C. LTpowerPlay software can be downloaded here. If two additional clock cycles for acquisition time are allowed after the data stream in between conversions, the full sampling rate of 3.5Msps can be achieved with a 63MHz clock. Demonstration circuit 2481B-A is a high efficiency, high density, μModule® regulator with 4.5V to 15V input range. The output voltage is adjustable from 0.6V to 1.8V, and it can supply 86A maximum load current. The demo board has 1× LTM4677 and 1× LTM4650 μModule regulators. The LTM4677 is a dual 18A or single 36A step-down regulator with PMBus power system management, and the LTM4650 is a dual 25A or single 50A step-down regulator. Please see LTM4677 and LTM4650 data sheets for more detailed information. DC2481B-A powers up to default settings and produce power based on configuration resistors without the need for any serial bus communication. This allows easy evaluation of the DC/DC converter. To fully explore the extensive power system management features of the part, download the GUI software LTpowerPlay® onto your PC and use Analog Devices I2C/SMBus/PMBus dongle DC1613A to connect to the board. LTpowerPlay allows the user to reconfigure the part on the fly and store the configuration in EEPROM, view telemetry of voltage, current, temperature and fault status. LT8644S | 8V, 16A Synchronous Step-Down Silent Switcher 2

Demonstration circuit 2779A is an 8V, 16A synchronous step-down Silent Switcher® 2 with spread spectrum frequency modulation featuring the LT8644S. The demo board is designed for 1.2V output from a 2.7V to 8V input. The LT8644S is a compact, ultralow emission, high efficiency, and high speed synchronous monolithic stepdown switching regulator. The integrated bypass capacitors optimize all the fast current loops and make it easier to minimize EMI emissions by reducing layout sensitivity. Selectable spread spectrum mode further improves EMI performance, making it perfect solution to the noise sensitive applications. Peak current mode control with minimum on-time of as low as 20ns allows high step-down conversion even at high frequency. The LT8644S switching frequency can be programmed either via an external resistor or an external clock over a 300kHz to 3.5MHz range. The default frequency of demo circuit 2779A is 2MHz. The SYNC/MODE pin on the demo board DC2779A is grounded (JP1 at BURST position) by default for low ripple Burst Mode® operation. It can be configured into different operation modes through JP1 and SYNC terminal (Table 1 in the demo manual). Figure 4 in the demo manual shows the efficiency of the circuit at 3.3V input and 5V input in force continuous mode operation (input from VIN terminal). To get accurate efficiency measurement, measure the input voltage at the VIN_SENSE/GND terminals and measure the output voltage at the VOUT+ SENSE/VOUT– SENSE terminals. Figure 5 shows the LT8644S temperature rise on DC2779A demo board at 3.3V input and 5V input in forced continuous mode. The LT8644S is assembled in a 4mm × 4mm LQFN package with exposed pads for low thermal resistance. The rated maximum continuous load current is 16A, while derating may be necessary for certain input voltage and thermal conditions. The demo board has an EMI filter installed. This EMI filter can be included by applying the input voltage at the VEMI terminal. The EMI performance of the board (with EMI filter) is shown on Figure 6 in the demo manual. The red lines in EMI Performance are CISPR25 Class 5 limits. The figure shows that the LT8644S circuit passes the test with a wide margin. To achieve EMI performance as shown in Figure 6, the input EMI filter is required and the input voltage should be applied to VEMI terminal, and the test setup can be referred to the CISPR25 standards. If the input is applied to VIN terminal, the EMI filter is bypassed. The LT8644S data sheet gives a complete description of the part, the operation and application information. The data sheet must be read in conjunction with the demo manual for demo circuit 2779A. The LTC3240-3.3/LTC3240-2.5 are step-up/step-down charge pump DC/DC converters that produce a fixed regulated output voltage of 3.3V or 2.5V over a wide input voltage range (1.8V to 5.5V).With input voltages greater than the regulated output voltage the LTC3240 operates as a low dropout regulator. Once the input voltage drops within 100mV of the regulated output voltage the part automatically switches to step-up mode.
