Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX9206/MAX9208 deserializers transform a highspeed serial bus low-voltage differential signaling (BLVDS) data stream into 10-bit-wide parallel LVCMOS/LVTTL data and clock. The deserializers pair with serializers such as the MAX9205/MAX9207, which generate a serial BLVDS signal from 10-bit-wide parallel data. The serializer/deserializer combination reduces interconnect, simplifies PCB layout, and reduces board size. The MAX9206/MAX9208 receive serial data at 450Mbps and 600Mbps, respectively, over board traces or twisted-pair cables. These devices combine frequency lock, bit lock, and frame lock to produce a parallel-rate clock and word-aligned 10-bit data. Serialization eliminates parallel bus clock-to-data and data-to-data skew.A power-down mode reduces typical supply current to less than 600µA. Upon power-up (applying power or driving active-low PWRDN high), the MAX9206/MAX9208 establish lock after receiving synchronization signals or serial data from the MAX9205/MAX9207. An output enable allows the outputs to be disabled, putting the parallel data outputs and recovered output clock into a highimpedance state without losing lock. The MAX9206/MAX9208 operate from a single +3.3V supply and are specified for operation from -40°C to +85°C. The MAX9206/MAX9208 are available in 28-pin SSOP packages.ApplicationsAdd/Drop MultiplexersBackplane and Interconnect ApplicationsCell Phone Base Stations Digital Cross-ConnectsDSLAMNetwork Routers and Switches

MAX3157CAI+T
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX3157 is a high CMRR RS-485/RS-422 data-communications interface providing ±50V isolation in a hybrid microcircuit. A single +5V supply on the logic side powers both sides of the interface, with external ±50V capacitors transferring power from the logic side to the isolated side. Each MAX3157 contains one transmitter and one receiver and is guaranteed to operate at data rates up to 250kbps. Drivers are short-circuit current limited and protected against excessive power dissipation by thermal shutdown circuitry that places the driver outputs into a high-impedance state. The receiver input has a fail-safe feature that guarantees a logic high receiver output if the inputs are open, shorted, or connected to a terminated transmission line with all drivers disabled. The MAX3157 typically draws 25mA of supply current when unloaded or when fully loaded with the driver disabled. Supply current drops to 25µA when the device is placed in shutdown mode. The device is pin selectable between half- and full-duplex mode and also features independently programmable receiver and transmitter output phase through separate pins. The MAX3157 is a low-cost replacement for opto-isolated transceivers. For fully isolated RS-485/RS-422 transceivers, refer to the MAX1480 family data sheet.ApplicationsAutomated Test Equipment (ATE)Building Energy Management (HVAC)Building Security/Remote CamerasHigh-Speed Access (Telecom)Industrial Sensor Transmitters/TransducersMotor and Motion ControlPOS TerminalsProgrammable Logic ControllersRemote CamerasTelecom SwitchesTest and Measurement EquipmentX-Ray and Ultrasound Diagnostics

MAX3238EEAI+
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX3238E/MAX3248E transceivers use Maxim's revolutionary AutoShutdown Plus feature to achieve 10nA supply current. These devices shut down the on-board power supply and drivers when they do not sense a valid signal transition on either the receiver or transmitter inputs. This occurs if the RS-232 cable is disconnected or if the transmitters of the connected peripheral are turned off. The devices turn on again when a valid transition is applied to any RS-232 receiver or transmitter input. AutoShutdown Plus automatically achieves this power savings through its on-board circuitry, as no changes are required to the existing BIOS or operating system. All RS-232 inputs and outputs, as well as the logic I/O pins, have enhanced ESD protection to ±15kV. The additional ESD protection on the logic I/O pins makes the MAX3238E/MAX3248E ideal for cell phone data cable applications because it eliminates the need for costly external TransZorb or protection schemes. The MAX3238E/MAX3248E contain five drivers and three receivers and are 3V-powered EIA/TIA-232 and V.28/V.24 communication interfaces intended for cell phones, data cables, and modem applications. A proprietary, high-efficiency, dual charge-pump power supply and a low-dropout transmitter combine to deliver true RS-232 performance from a single +3.0V to +5.5V supply. A guaranteed data rate of 250kbps provides compatibility with popular software for communicating with personal computers. The MAX3238E and the MAX3248E differ only in their input logic thresholds. The MAX3238E has standard logic thresholds, while the MAX3248E has low-level logic thresholds of 0.6V to 1.2V, which are ideal for 1.8V systems. The transmitter inputs, FORCEON, and active-low FORCEOFF have a 400 kilohms active positive feedback resistor. Once driven to a valid logic level, they will retain this level if the driving signal is removed or goes high impedance. Unused transmitter and logic inputs may be left unconnected. The MAX3238E/MAX3248E can operate with supply voltages ranging from +3.0V to +5.5V.ApplicationsBattery-Powered ApplicationsCellular Data CablesData CradlesModemsPeripheralsPrinters

The MAX3316E-MAX3319E are 2.5V powered RS-232 compatible transceivers. These devices feature shutdown (MAX3317E), AutoShutdown Plus (MAX3318E/MAX3319E), and enhanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection integrated into the chip. All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to ±15kV using the IEC 1000-4-2 Air-Gap Discharge method, ±8kV using the IEC 1000-4-2 Contact Discharge method, and ±15kV using the Human Body Model. All devices are guaranteed at a data rate of 460kbps. The transceivers have a proprietary low-dropout transmitter output stage enabling RS-232 compatible operation from a +2.25V to +3.0V supply with a dual charge pump. The charge pump requires only four 0.1µF capacitors. The MAX3318E/MAX3319E feature a logic-level output (READY) that asserts when the charge pump is regulating and the device is ready to begin transmitting. The MAX3318E/MAX3319E achieve a 1µA supply current using Maxim's revolutionary AutoShutdown Plus feature. These devices automatically enter a low-power shutdown mode when the RS-232 cable is disconnected or the transmitters of the connected peripherals are inactive for more than 30 seconds. They turn on again when they sense a valid transition at any transmitter or receiver input. AutoShutdown Plus saves power without changes to the existing BIOS or operating system. The MAX3317E also features a 1µA shutdown mode that can be entered by driving active-low SHDN low. The MAX3317E's receivers remain active while in shutdown mode, allowing external devices such as modems to be monitored using only 1µA supply current. These devices are available in space-saving packages: MAX3316E (16-pin SSOP and 20-pin TSSOP), MAX3317E/ MAX3318E (20-pin SSOP and 20-pin TSSOP), and MAX3319E (16-pin SSOP).ApplicationsCell PhonesGlobal Positioning Systems (GPS)Handheld Electronic BooksHandheld Instruments (PDAs, Palmtops)Handy TerminalsPagersPalmtop Computers
