MAX8903JETI+T

Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX8903A–MAX8903E/MAX8903G/MAX8903H/MAX8903J/MAX8903N/MAX8903Y are integrated 1-cell Li+ chargers and Smart Power Selectors™ with dual (AC adapter and USB) power inputs. The switch mode charger uses a high switching frequency to eliminate heat and allow tiny external components. It can operate with either separate inputs for USB and AC adapter power, or from a single input that accepts both. All power switches for charging and switching the load between battery and external power are included on-chip. No external MOSFETs, blocking diodes, or current-sense resistors are required. The MAX8903_ feature optimized smart power control to make the best use of limited USB or adapter power. Battery charge current and SYS output current limit are independently set. Power not used by the system charges the battery. Charge current and SYS output current limit can be set up to 2A while USB input current can be set to 100mA or 500mA. Automatic input selection switches the system from battery to external power. The DC input operates from 4.15V to 16V with up to 20V protection, while the USB input has a range of 4.1V to 6.3V with up to 8V protection. The MAX8903_ internally block current from the battery and system back to the DC and USB inputs when no input supply is present. Other features include prequal charging and timer, fast charge timer, overvoltage protection, charge status and fault outputs, power-OK monitors, and a battery thermistor monitor. In addition, on-chip thermal limiting reduces battery charge rate and AC adapter current to prevent charger overheating. The MAX8903_ is available in a 4mm x 4mm, 28-pin thin QFN package. The various versions of the MAX8903_ allow for design flexibility to choose key parameters such as system regulation voltage, battery prequalification threshold, and battery regulation voltage. The MAX8903B/MAX8903E/MAX8903G also includes power-enable on battery detection. LTC4097EDDB#TRMPBF

Analog Devices Inc.
The LTC4097 is a standalone linear battery charger that is capable of charging a single-cell Li-Ion or Li-Polymer battery from both wall adapter and USB inputs. The charger can detect power at the inputs and automatically select the appropriate power source for charging. No external sense resistor or blocking diode is required for charging due to the internal MOSFET architecture. Internal thermal feedback regulates the battery charge current to maintain a constant die temperature during high power operation or high ambient temperature conditions. The float voltage is fixed at 4.2V and the charge current is programmed with an external resistor. The LTC4097 terminates the charge cycle when the charge current drops below the user programmed termination threshold after the final float voltage is reached. The LTC4097 can be put into shutdown mode reducing the DCIN supply current to 20µA, the USBIN supply current to 10µA, and the battery drain current to less than 2µA even with power applied to both inputs.Other features include trickle charge, automatic recharge, undervoltage lockout, charge status output, an NTC thermistor input used to monitor battery temperature and VNTC power present output with 120mA drive capability.Applications Cellular Telephones MP3 Players Portable Handheld Devices

MAX1873REEE+

Analog Devices Inc.
The low-cost MAX1873R/S/T provides all functions needed to simply and efficiently charge 2-, 3-, or 4-series lithium-ion cells at up to 4A or more. It provides a regulated charging current and voltage with less than ±0.75% total voltage error at the battery terminals. An external P-channel MOSFET operates in a step-down DC-DC configuration to efficiently charge batteries in low-cost designs. The MAX1873R/S/T regulates the battery voltage and charging current using two control loops that work together to transition smoothly between voltage and current regulation. An additional control loop limits current drawn from the input source so that AC adapter size and cost can be minimized. An analog voltage output proportional to charging current is also supplied so that an ADC or microcontroller can monitor charging current. The MAX1873 may also be used as an efficient current-limited source to charge NiCd or NiMH batteries in multichemistry charger designs. The MAX1873R/S/T is available in a space-saving 16-pin QSOP package. Use the evaluation kit (MAX1873EVKIT) to help reduce design time.Applications2-, 3-, or 4-Cell Li+ Battery Pack Chargers6-, 9-, or 10-Cell Li+ Battery Pack ChargersDesktop Cradle ChargersHandheld Instruments (PDAs, Palmtops)Notebook ComputersPortable Desktop Assistants (PDAs)Portable Internet Tablets

MAX1925ETC+

Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX1925/MAX1926 single-cell lithium-ion (Li+) switch-mode battery chargers use an external PMOS pass element step-down configuration. Charge current is programmable, and an external capacitor sets the maximum charge time.Additional features include automatic input power detection (active-low ACON output), logic-controlled enable, and temperature monitoring with an external thermistor. The MAX1925 disables charging for inputs greater than 6.1V, while the MAX1926 charges for inputs between 4.25V and 12V.The MAX1925/MAX1926 feature two precondition levels to restore near-dead cells. The devices source 4mA to a cell that is below 2V while sourcing C/10 to a cell between 2V and 3V. Full charge current is then applied above 3V. A active-low CHG output drives an LED to indicate charging (LED on) and fault conditions (LED blinking). The MAX1925/MAX1926 are available in a 12-pin 4mm x 4mm thin QFN package and are specified over the extended temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). An evaluation kit is available to speed design.ApplicationsCradle ChargersDigital Still CamerasPDAsSelf-Charging Battery Packs

MAX14690CEWX+T

Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX14690 is a battery-charge-management solution ideal for low-power wearable applications. The device includes a linear battery charger with a smart power selector and several power-optimized peripherals. The MAX14690 features two ultra-low-power buck regulators with a typical quiescent current of 900nA. In addition, three ultra-low power low-dropout (LDO) linear regulators, with a typical quiescent current of 600nA are included. In total, the MAX14690 can provide up to five regulated voltages, each with an ultra-low quiescent current, critical to battery life for the unique power profile in 24/7 operation devices, such as those in the wearable market. The battery charger features a smart power selector that allows operation on a dead battery when connected to a power source. To avoid overloading a power adapter, the input current to the smart power selector is limited based on an I2C register setting. If the charger power source is unable to supply the entire system load, the smart power control circuit supplements the system load with current from the battery. The two synchronous, high-efficiency step-down buck regulators feature a fixed-frequency PWM mode for tighter regulation and a burst mode for increased efficiency during light-load operation. The output voltage of these regulators can be programmed through I2C with the default preconfigured. The three configurable LDOs each have a dedicated input pin. Each LDO regulator output voltage can be programmed through I2C with the default preconfigured. The linear regulators can also be configured to operate as power switches that may be used to disconnect the quiescent load of the system peripherals. The MAX14690 features a programmable power controller that allows the device to be configured for applications that require the device be in a true-off, or always-on, state. The controller also provides a delayed reset signal and voltage sequencing. The MAX14690 is available in a 36-bump, 0.4mm pitch, 2.72mm x 2.47mm wafer-level package (WLP).ApplicationsFitness MonitorsPortable Medical DevicesWearable Electronics
