The LTC4097 is a standalone linear battery charger that is capable of charging a single-cell Li-Ion or Li-Polymer battery from both wall adapter and USB inputs. The charger can detect power at the inputs and automatically select the appropriate power source for charging.No external sense resistor or blocking diode is required for charging due to the internal MOSFET architecture. Internal thermal feedback regulates the battery charge current to maintain a constant die temperature during high power operation or high ambient temperature conditions. The float voltage is fixed at 4.2V and the charge current is programmed with an external resistor. The LTC4097 terminates the charge cycle when the charge current drops below the user programmed termination threshold after the final float voltage is reached. The LTC4097 can be put into shutdown mode reducing the DCIN supply current to 20µA, the USBIN supply current to 10µA, and the battery drain current to less than 2µA even with power applied to both inputs.Other features include trickle charge, automatic recharge, undervoltage lockout, charge status output, an NTC thermistor input used to monitor battery temperature and VNTC power present output with 120mA drive capability.Applications Cellular Telephones MP3 Players Portable Handheld Devices

The MAX8662/MAX8663 power-management ICs (PMICs) are efficient, compact devices suitable for smart cellular phones, PDAs, Internet appliances, and other portable devices. They integrate two synchronous buck regulators, a boost regulator driving two to seven white LEDs, four low-dropout linear regulators (LDOs), and a linear charger for a single-cell Li-ion (Li+) battery.Maxim's Smart Power Selector™ (SPS) safely distributes power between an external power source (AC adapter, auto adapter, or USB source), battery, and the system load. When system load peaks exceed the external source capability, the battery supplies supplemental current. When system load requirements are small, residual power from the external power source charges the battery. A thermal-limiting circuit limits battery-charge rate and external power-source current to prevent overheating. The MAX8677A is an integrated 1-cell Li+ charger and Smart Power Selector™ with dual (DC and USB) power inputs. It can operate with either separate inputs for USB and AC adapter power*, or from a single input that accepts both. All power switches for charging and switching the load between battery and external power are included on-chip. No external MOSFETs are required.The MAX8677A features a Smart Power Selector to make the best use of limited USB or adapter power. The battery charge current and input current limit are independently set up to 1.5A and 2A, respectively. Input power not used by the system charges the battery. USB input current can be set to 100mA or 500mA. Automatic input selection switches the system load from battery to external power.Other features include overvoltage protection (OVP), charge status and fault outputs, power-OK monitors, charge timer, and battery thermistor monitor. Additionally, on-chip thermal limiting reduces the battery charge rate to prevent overheating.
