MAX17006BETP+T
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX17005B/MAX17006B/MAX17015B are high-frequency multichemistry battery chargers. These circuits feature a new high-frequency current-mode architecture that significantly reduces component size and cost. The charger uses a high-side MOSFET with n-channel synchronous rectifier. Widely adjustable charge current, charge voltage, and input current limit simplify the construction of highly accurate and efficient chargers. The charge voltage and charge current are set with analog control inputs. The charge current setting can also be adjusted with a PWM input. High-accuracy current-sense amplifiers provide fast cycle-by-cycle current-mode control to protect against short circuits to the battery and respond quickly to system load transients. In addition, the charger provides a high-accuracy analog output that is proportional to the adapter current. In the MAX17015B, this current monitor remains active when the adapter is absent to monitor battery discharge current. The MAX17005B charges three or four Li+ series cells, and the MAX17006B charges two or three Li+ series cells. The MAX17015B adjusts the charge voltage setting and the number of cells through a feedback resistor-divider from the output. All variants of the charger can provide at least 4A of charge current with a 10mΩ sense resistor. The charger utilizes a charge pump to control an n-channel adapter selection switch. The charge pump remains active even when the charger is off. When the adapter is absent, a p-channel MOSFET selects the battery. The MAX17005B/MAX17006B/MAX17015B are available in a small, 4mm x 4mm x 0.8mm 20-pin, lead-free TQFN package. An evaluation kit is available to reduce design time.ApplicationsNotebook ComputersPortable Equipment with Rechargeable BatteriesTablet PCs

MAX1259EWE+
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX1259 battery manager provides backup-batteryswitching for CMOS RAM, microprocessors, or otherlow-power logic ICs. It automatically switches to thebackup battery when the primary power supply is interrupted.Low-loss switches guarantee an input-to-outputdifferential of only 200mV while supplying 250mA fromthe primary power supply or 15mA from the battery.Battery discharge during shipping does not occur in theMAX1259, since the backup battery can be disconnectedby strobing the RST input.A battery-fail output signal indicates when the backupbattery is below +2V, and a power-fail output signal indicateswhen the primary power supply is low. TheMAX1259 monitors the backup battery, warns ofimpending power failures, and switches the memory tothe battery when failures occur. The MAX1259 is pin-compatiblewith the DS1259, but consumes three timesless supply current. Commercial, extended, and militarytemperature range devices are available.ApplicationsBattery Backup for CMOS RAMComputersControllersUninterruptible Power Supplies

LTC4097EDDB#TRMPBF
Analog Devices Inc.
The LTC4097 is a standalone linear battery charger that is capable of charging a single-cell Li-Ion or Li-Polymer battery from both wall adapter and USB inputs. The charger can detect power at the inputs and automatically select the appropriate power source for charging. No external sense resistor or blocking diode is required for charging due to the internal MOSFET architecture. Internal thermal feedback regulates the battery charge current to maintain a constant die temperature during high power operation or high ambient temperature conditions. The float voltage is fixed at 4.2V and the charge current is programmed with an external resistor. The LTC4097 terminates the charge cycle when the charge current drops below the user programmed termination threshold after the final float voltage is reached. The LTC4097 can be put into shutdown mode reducing the DCIN supply current to 20µA, the USBIN supply current to 10µA, and the battery drain current to less than 2µA even with power applied to both inputs.Other features include trickle charge, automatic recharge, undervoltage lockout, charge status output, an NTC thermistor input used to monitor battery temperature and VNTC power present output with 120mA drive capability.Applications Cellular Telephones MP3 Players Portable Handheld Devices

MAX8663ETL+
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX8662/MAX8663 power-management ICs (PMICs) are efficient, compact devices suitable for smart cellular phones, PDAs, Internet appliances, and other portable devices. They integrate two synchronous buck regulators, a boost regulator driving two to seven white LEDs, four low-dropout linear regulators (LDOs), and a linear charger for a single-cell Li-ion (Li+) battery.Maxim's Smart Power Selector™ (SPS) safely distributes power between an external power source (AC adapter, auto adapter, or USB source), battery, and the system load. When system load peaks exceed the external source capability, the battery supplies supplemental current. When system load requirements are small, residual power from the external power source charges the battery. A thermal-limiting circuit limits battery-charge rate and external power-source current to prevent overheating. The PMIC also allows the system to operate with no battery or a discharged battery. The MAX8662 is available in a 6mm x 6mm, 48-pin TQFN package, while the MAX8663, without the LED driver, is available in a 5mm x 5mm, 40-pin TQFN package.Applications3G Smart cellular phonesOther Handheld DevicesPDAs, portable media players (PMPs)Portable GPS Navigation Devices (PNDs)

MAX8677AETG+
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX8677A is an integrated 1-cell Li+ charger and Smart Power Selector™ with dual (DC and USB) power inputs. It can operate with either separate inputs for USB and AC adapter power*, or from a single input that accepts both. All power switches for charging and switching the load between battery and external power are included on-chip. No external MOSFETs are required. The MAX8677A features a Smart Power Selector to make the best use of limited USB or adapter power. The battery charge current and input current limit are independently set up to 1.5A and 2A, respectively. Input power not used by the system charges the battery. USB input current can be set to 100mA or 500mA. Automatic input selection switches the system load from battery to external power.Other features include overvoltage protection (OVP), charge status and fault outputs, power-OK monitors, charge timer, and battery thermistor monitor. Additionally, on-chip thermal limiting reduces the battery charge rate to prevent overheating. The MAX8677A is available in a 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin TQFN-EP package.ApplicationsDigital CamerasGPS NavigationPDAs, Palmtops, and Wireless HandheldsPortable Media/MP3 PlayersSmart Cell Phones

MAX1870AETJ+T
Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX1870A step-up/step-down multichemistry battery charger charges with battery voltages above and below the adapter voltage. This highly integrated charger requires a minimum number of external components. The MAX1870A uses a proprietary step-up/stepdown control scheme that provides efficient charging. Analog inputs control charge current and voltage, and can be programmed by the host or hardwired. The MAX1870A accurately charges two to four lithiumion (Li+) series cells at greater than 4A. A programmable input current limit is included, which avoids overloading the AC adapter when supplying the load and the battery charger simultaneously. This reduces the maximum adapter current, which reduces cost. The MAX1870A provides analog outputs to monitor the current drawn from the AC adapter and charge current. A digital output indicates the presence of an AC adapter. When the adapter is removed, the MAX1870A consumes less than 1µA from the battery. The MAX1870A is available in a 32-pin thin QFN (5mm x 5mm) package and is specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. The MAX1870A evaluation kit (MAX1870AEVKIT) is available to help reduce design time.ApplicationsHandheld TerminalsNotebook and Subnotebook Computers
