MAX8663ETL+T

Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX8662/MAX8663 power-management ICs (PMICs) are efficient, compact devices suitable for smart cellular phones, PDAs, Internet appliances, and other portable devices. They integrate two synchronous buck regulators, a boost regulator driving two to seven white LEDs, four low-dropout linear regulators (LDOs), and a linear charger for a single-cell Li-ion (Li+) battery.Maxim's Smart Power Selector™ (SPS) safely distributes power between an external power source (AC adapter, auto adapter, or USB source), battery, and the system load. When system load peaks exceed the external source capability, the battery supplies supplemental current. When system load requirements are small, residual power from the external power source charges the battery. A thermal-limiting circuit limits battery-charge rate and external power-source current to prevent overheating. The PMIC also allows the system to operate with no battery or a discharged battery. The MAX8662 is available in a 6mm x 6mm, 48-pin TQFN package, while the MAX8663, without the LED driver, is available in a 5mm x 5mm, 40-pin TQFN package.Applications3G Smart cellular phonesOther Handheld DevicesPDAs, portable media players (PMPs)Portable GPS Navigation Devices (PNDs)

MAX8677AETG+

Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX8677A is an integrated 1-cell Li+ charger and Smart Power Selector™ with dual (DC and USB) power inputs. It can operate with either separate inputs for USB and AC adapter power*, or from a single input that accepts both. All power switches for charging and switching the load between battery and external power are included on-chip. No external MOSFETs are required. The MAX8677A features a Smart Power Selector to make the best use of limited USB or adapter power. The battery charge current and input current limit are independently set up to 1.5A and 2A, respectively. Input power not used by the system charges the battery. USB input current can be set to 100mA or 500mA. Automatic input selection switches the system load from battery to external power.Other features include overvoltage protection (OVP), charge status and fault outputs, power-OK monitors, charge timer, and battery thermistor monitor. Additionally, on-chip thermal limiting reduces the battery charge rate to prevent overheating. The MAX8677A is available in a 4mm x 4mm, 24-pin TQFN-EP package.ApplicationsDigital CamerasGPS NavigationPDAs, Palmtops, and Wireless HandheldsPortable Media/MP3 PlayersSmart Cell Phones

LTC4097EDDB#TRMPBF

Analog Devices Inc.
The LTC4097 is a standalone linear battery charger that is capable of charging a single-cell Li-Ion or Li-Polymer battery from both wall adapter and USB inputs. The charger can detect power at the inputs and automatically select the appropriate power source for charging. No external sense resistor or blocking diode is required for charging due to the internal MOSFET architecture. Internal thermal feedback regulates the battery charge current to maintain a constant die temperature during high power operation or high ambient temperature conditions. The float voltage is fixed at 4.2V and the charge current is programmed with an external resistor. The LTC4097 terminates the charge cycle when the charge current drops below the user programmed termination threshold after the final float voltage is reached. The LTC4097 can be put into shutdown mode reducing the DCIN supply current to 20µA, the USBIN supply current to 10µA, and the battery drain current to less than 2µA even with power applied to both inputs.Other features include trickle charge, automatic recharge, undervoltage lockout, charge status output, an NTC thermistor input used to monitor battery temperature and VNTC power present output with 120mA drive capability.Applications Cellular Telephones MP3 Players Portable Handheld Devices

MAX1870AETJ+T

Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX1870A step-up/step-down multichemistry battery charger charges with battery voltages above and below the adapter voltage. This highly integrated charger requires a minimum number of external components. The MAX1870A uses a proprietary step-up/stepdown control scheme that provides efficient charging. Analog inputs control charge current and voltage, and can be programmed by the host or hardwired. The MAX1870A accurately charges two to four lithiumion (Li+) series cells at greater than 4A. A programmable input current limit is included, which avoids overloading the AC adapter when supplying the load and the battery charger simultaneously. This reduces the maximum adapter current, which reduces cost. The MAX1870A provides analog outputs to monitor the current drawn from the AC adapter and charge current. A digital output indicates the presence of an AC adapter. When the adapter is removed, the MAX1870A consumes less than 1µA from the battery. The MAX1870A is available in a 32-pin thin QFN (5mm x 5mm) package and is specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. The MAX1870A evaluation kit (MAX1870AEVKIT) is available to help reduce design time.ApplicationsHandheld TerminalsNotebook and Subnotebook Computers

MAX1874ETE+T

Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX1874 charges a single-cell Li+ battery from both USB and AC adapter sources. It also includes battery-to-input power switchover, so the system can be powered directly from the power source rather than from the battery. In its simplest application, the MAX1874 needs no external MOSFET or diodes, and accepts input voltages up to 6.5V; however, DC input overvoltage protection up to 18V can be added with a single SOT PFET.On-chip thermal limiting simplifies printed circuit board (PCB) layout and allows optimum charging rate without the thermal limits imposed by worst-case battery and input voltage. When the MAX1874 thermal limit is reached, the charger does not shut down but simply reduces charging current.Ambient or battery temperature can be monitored with an external thermistor. When the temperature is out of range, charging pauses.Other features include an active-low CHG output to indicate when battery current tapers below a predetermined level. DC power-OK (active-low DCOK), USB power-OK (active-low UOK), and power-on (PON) outputs indicate when valid power is present. These outputs drive logic or power-selection MOSFETs to disconnect the charging sources from the load and to protect the MAX1874 from overvoltage. The MAX1874 contains no logic for communication with the USB host. It must receive instructions from a local microcontroller. The MAX1874 is available in a 16-pin 5mm x 5mm thin QFN package and operates over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range.ApplicationsCell PhonesDigital CamerasPDAsWireless Appliances

MAX14690CEWX+T

Analog Devices Inc.
The MAX14690 is a battery-charge-management solution ideal for low-power wearable applications. The device includes a linear battery charger with a smart power selector and several power-optimized peripherals. The MAX14690 features two ultra-low-power buck regulators with a typical quiescent current of 900nA. In addition, three ultra-low power low-dropout (LDO) linear regulators, with a typical quiescent current of 600nA are included. In total, the MAX14690 can provide up to five regulated voltages, each with an ultra-low quiescent current, critical to battery life for the unique power profile in 24/7 operation devices, such as those in the wearable market. The battery charger features a smart power selector that allows operation on a dead battery when connected to a power source.
