The LTC4000-1 is a high voltage, high performance controller that converts many externally compensated DC/DC power supplies into full-featured battery chargers with maximum power point control. In contrast to the LTC4000, the LTC4000-1 has an input voltage regulation loop instead of the input current regulation loop.Features of the LTC4000-1’s battery charger include: accurate (±0.25%) programmable float voltage, selectable timer or current termination, temperature qualified charging using an NTC thermistor, automatic recharge, C/10 trickle charge for deeply discharged cells, bad battery detection and status indicator outputs. The battery charger also includes precision current sensing that allows lower sense voltages for high current applications.The LTC4000-1 supports intelligent PowerPath control. An external PFET provides low loss reverse current protection. Another external PFET provides low loss charging or discharging of the battery. The MAX17005B/MAX17006B/MAX17015B are high-frequency multichemistry battery chargers. These circuits feature a new high-frequency current-mode architecture that significantly reduces component size and cost. The charger uses a high-side MOSFET with n-channel synchronous rectifier. Widely adjustable charge current, charge voltage, and input current limit simplify the construction of highly accurate and efficient chargers.The charge voltage and charge current are set with analog control inputs. The charge current setting can also be adjusted with a PWM input. High-accuracy current-sense amplifiers provide fast cycle-by-cycle current-mode control to protect against short circuits to the battery and respond quickly to system load transients. In addition, the charger provides a high-accuracy analog output that is proportional to the adapter current. In the MAX17015B, this current monitor remains active when the adapter is absent to monitor battery discharge current.The MAX17005B charges three or four Li+ series cells, and the MAX17006B charges two or three Li+ series cells. The MAX17015B adjusts the charge voltage setting and the number of cells through a feedback resistor-divider from the output. All variants of the charger can provide at least 4A of charge current with a 10mΩ sense resistor.The charger utilizes a charge pump to control an n-channel adapter selection switch. The charge pump remains active even when the charger is off. When the adapter is absent, a p-channel MOSFET selects the battery.The MAX17005B/MAX17006B/MAX17015B are available in a small, 4mm x 4mm x 0.8mm 20-pin, lead-free TQFN package. The MAX8895_ USB-compliant linear battery chargers operate from either a USB port or dedicated charger with automatic detection of adapter type and USB enumeration capability. The MAX8895X/MAX8895Y integrate the battery disconnect switch, current-sense circuit, MOSFET pass elements, and thermal regulation circuitry, and eliminate the external reverse-blocking Schottky diode to create the simplest and smallest stand-alone charging solutions. The MAX8895_ include an automated detection of charge adapter type, making it possible to distinguish between USB 2.0 device, USB charger, and dedicated charger devices. Furthermore, the MAX8895X/MAX8895Y include a USB enumeration function that automatically negotiates with a USB host, making it possible to achieve the highest current available from a USB 2.0 device or USB charger without processor intervention. The adapter type detection is compliant with USB 2.0 specification as well as USB charging Revision 1.1. The MAX8895_ control the charging sequence for single-cell Li+ batteries from initial power-OK indication, through prequalification, fast-charge, top-off, and finally charge termination. Charging is controlled using constant current, constant voltage, and constant die-temperature (CCCVCTj) regulation for safe operation under all conditions. The maximum charging current is adaptively controlled by subtracting the system current from the input current limit, ensuring that the charging current is always maximized for any given operating condition. The MAX8895_ feature optimized smart power control to make the best use of limited USB or adapter power. Battery charge current is set independently of the SYS_ input current limit. Power not used by the system charges the battery. Automatic input selection switches the system from battery to external power. This allows the application to operate without a battery, discharged battery, or dead battery. Other features include undervoltage lockout (UVLO), overvoltage protection (OVP), charge status flag, charge fault flag, power-OK monitor, battery thermistor monitor, charge timer, and a 3.3V output. The MAX8895_ operate from a +4.0V to +6.6V supply and include overvoltage protection up to +16V.
