The LT1766/LT1766-5 are 200kHz monolithic buck switching regulators that accept input voltages up to 60V. A high efficiency 1.5A, 0.2? switch is included on the die along with all the necessary oscillator, control and logic circuitry. A current mode control architecture delivers fast transient response and excellent loop stability.Special design techniques and a new high voltage process achieve high efficiency over a wide input range. Efficiency is maintained over a wide output current range by using the output to bias the circuitry and by utilizing a supply boost capacitor to saturate the power switch. Patented circuitry maintains peak switch current over the full duty cycle range. A shutdown pin reduces supply current to 25?A and the device can be externally synchronized from 228kHz to 700kHz with logic-level inputs. The LT1766/LT1766-5 are available in a 16-pin fused-lead SSOP package or a TSSOP package with exposed backside for improved thermal performance.Applications High Voltage, Industrial and Automotive Portable Computers Battery-Powered Systems Battery Chargers Distributed Power Systems

The LTC1700 is a current mode synchronous step-up DC/DC controller that drives external N-channel and P-channel power MOSFETs using a constant frequency PWM architecture. Current limiting is provided by sensing the voltage drop across the main MOSFET, eliminating the need of a sense resistor. This No RSENSE? technique helps the LTC1700 maintain high efficiency at heavy loads while Burst Mode operation ensures high efficiency at light loads, thus providing high efficiencies over a wide range of load currents. The LTC1700 operates at a minimum input voltage as low as 0.9V. The device boasts a ?1.5% output voltage accuracy and consumes only 200?A of quiescent current. In shutdown, it only draws 10?A.To prevent inductor current runaway, the duty cycle is limited to 90%. Overvoltage protection is also provided which shuts both the external MOSFETs off when tripped.High constant operating frequency of 530kHz allows the use of small inductors and output capacitors. The LTC1700 can also be synchronized between 400kHz to 750kHz. Burst Mode operation is inhibited when the device is externally clocked or when the SYNC/MODE pin is pulled low to reduce noise and RF interference.Applications Cellular Telephones Wireless Modems RF Communications 2.5V to 3.3V, 2.5V to 5V Converters Battery-Powered Equipment Telecom/Network Systems

The LTC1734 is a low cost, single cell, constant-current/constant-voltage Li-Ion battery charger controller. When combined with a few external components, the SOT-23 package forms a very small, low cost charger for single cell lithium-ion batteries. The LTC1734 is available in 4.1V and 4.2V versions with 1% accuracy. Constant current is programmed using a single external resistor between the PROG pin and ground. Manual shutdown is accomplished by floating the program resistor while removing input power automatically puts the LT1734 into sleep mode. Both the shutdown and sleep modes drain near zero current from battery.Charge current can be monitored via the voltage on the PROG pin allowing a microcontroller or ADC to read the current and determine when to terminate the charge cycle. The output driver is both current limited and thermally protected to prevent the LTC1734 from operating outside of safe limits. No external blocking diode is required. The LTC1734 can also function as a general purpose current source or as a current source for charging nickel-cadmium (NiCd) and nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries using external termination. The ADM1170 is a Hot Swap controller that allows a board to be safely inserted and removed from a live backplane. This is achieved using a pass FET with a current control loop that monitors the input current using a sense resistor. An internal charge pump is used to enhance the gate of theexternal high side N-channel FET. When an over current condition is detected the gate voltage of the FET is reduced to limit the current flowing through the sense resistor. The ADM1170 operates with a supply voltage ranging from 2.7V to 16.5V. Using separate SENSE pins from VCC the ADM1170 allows for the hot swap of supplies ranging down to 1.6V. During an overcurrent condition the timer cap determines the amount of time the FET will remain in this condition. The ON (ON-CLR) pin is the enable input for the device and also acts as a latched fault reset for the ADM1170-2 model. The SS pin is used to control the inrush current profile by ramping up the current sense limit at a rate set by the SS capacitor. This device is available in two options: the ADM1170-1 will automatic retry for over-current fault and the ADM1170-2 will latch-off for an over-current fault. EVAL-ADM1178EBZ

Analog Devices Inc.
The ADM1178 is an integrated hot swap controller and current sense amplifier that offers digital current and voltage monitoring via an on-chip 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), communicated through an I2C? interface. An internal current sense amplifier measures voltage across the sense resistor in the power path via the VCC pin and the SENSE pin.The ADM1178 limits the current through this resistor by control-ling the gate voltage (via the GATE pin) of an external N-channel FET in the power path. The voltage across the sense resistor (and therefore the inrush current) is kept below a preset maximum. The ADM1178 protects the external FET by limiting the time that the maximum current runs through it. This current limit period is set by the value of the capacitor attached to the TIMER pin. Additionally, the device provides protection from overcurrent events that may occur after the hot swap event is complete. In case of a short-circuit event, the current in the sense resistor exceeds an overcurrent trip threshold, and the FET is switched off immediately by pulling down the GATE pin.A 12-bit ADC can measure the current seen in the sense resistor, as well as the supply voltage on the VCC pin. An alert output can be set to trigger when the ADC current reading exceeds a programmed overcurrent limit threshold. An industry-standard I2C interface allows a controller to read current and voltage data from the ADC. Measurements can be initiated by an I2C command. Alternatively, the ADC can run continuously, and the user can read the latest conversion data whenever it is required. Up to four unique I2C addresses can be created, depending on how the ADR pin is connected. The ADM1178 is packaged in a 10-lead MSOP.ApplicationsPower monitoring/power budgeting Central office equipment Telecommunication and data communication equipment PCs/servers
